MARGAO: As a major setback to the Margao Municipal Council, the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has asked the civic body to return back the unutilised funds of Rs 3 crore given under Golden Jubilee package.
This fund has been pending before the MMC for the last several years, and it was supposed to be utilised for a multi-level parking project in Margao. No bidders due to the hike in prices have made the DMC to ask the civic body to return the funds back to government treasury.
However, the DMA has hinted at giving this project to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA), once the civic body takes the resolution about the same.
On Tuesday, speaking to media MMC Chairperson Lyndon Pereira said at the meeting held on Monday the DMA has asked the civic body to return back the unutilised funds under the Golden Jubilee Scheme.
“Earlier the contract given to one of the agencies was terminated due to GST, wherein the contractor had categorically refused to carry on the works. Thereafter, for the three times, the tenders were issued but no bidder had shown any interest in the project,” said Pereira.
