VASCO: Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) has provided funds to the local civic bodies to purchase safety gear and items.

Speaking to the media persons during the sanitisation work in municipal areas, DMA Tariq Thomas said his office has given funds to the local governing bodies because initially there was shortage of supply of the safety equipment. Now, the municipality should procure items on their own and should ensure that their workers possess sufficient protective gear. “We have also formed an inspection team, which will ensure that the procedure is being followed,” Thomas said.

Further, the DMA informed that A Class municipalities are given Rs 8 lakh, B Class Rs 6 lakh and C Class Rs 4 lakh to procure protective equipment.

When questioned as to how long the sanitisation process will continue, Thomas informed that as soon as it is over then the municipality should inform DMA and accordingly they will be given more money.

He said sanitisers etc are available in the market and the production is increasing as some distilleries have been converted into manufacturing units.

Urban Development Minister Milind Naik said special inspection team will be formed to keep check whether the safety gear and items are procured or not.  All municipalities have been supplied with sanitisation chemicals and proper sanitization is being undertaken.
