A woman doctor who was allegedly assaulted by a Shiv Sena corporator at a municipal hospital in Maharashtra has resigned from her post, a day after her colleague reportedly quit and left the city citing safety concerns.
The incident took place at Shastri Nagar Hospital in Dombivli, which is run by the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC). According to reports, the confrontation began after two doctors advised the family of a newborn to shift the infant to another hospital because the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) was full.

The patient’s relatives subsequently approached Shiv Sena corporator Rakesh Mhatre, who arrived at the hospital with his associates. The situation soon escalated, with Mhatre allegedly assaulting doctors and hospital staff.
A video of the incident, which went viral on social media, showed the corporator striking a woman doctor from behind before turning towards another doctor and other staff members. The footage sparked widespread outrage and condemnation from the medical fraternity.
Following the assault, doctor Vaibhav Salunkhe reportedly resigned and left the city, claiming he feared for his safety.
“I have resigned because there is a lot of fear. Goons are watching us, and I have already left the city. They are very dangerous people. The other doctors may continue working there, but I cannot. I will not go back there again,” he said.
The woman doctor, Srushti Baviskar, has also reportedly stepped down after the incident. However, KDMC Chief Medical Officer Dr. Deepa Shukla disputed the reports, stating that neither doctor had formally submitted a resignation
