CUNCOLIM: It looks like Cuncolim MLA Clafacio Dias who joined the BJP party is in a state of dilemma over the State government’s three controversial projects – the railway double tracking, power transmission lines passing through Mollem and the expansion of the highway cutting through the Mollem National park.

Clafacio recently promised his supporters that he will oppose coal transportation in the State. Yet, thereafter he was not openly objecting Railway double tracking. “I will oppose railway double tracking if it is used for coal transportation,” he said. A convenient tactic to avoid committing on the issue, when it’s clear that coal transportation is the sole motive for these projects
But pressure is building. Agitated supporters asked him if he is for or against the three projects. Recently, last week Dias had inspected the ongoing work of double tracking and said “I am with people’s voice,”, while clarifying that he is opposing double tracking and coal hub and will even go on to resign from the party if he needs to.
It’s clear that the MLA is still hedging his bets and isn’t quite sure which way to go, taking one day at a time. On the high transmission line, a few days ago he said “I am strongly against the power line”; while earlier he had said “we need power for our future generation”
On four lane roads, he said, “A four lane road is the need of the hour to avoid accidents and also for smooth transport. I am not objecting, you also don’t object it,” Dias had told his supporters.
