PANJIM: NRI Commissioner Dr Wilfred Mesquita has challenged Congress spokesman Sudip Tamhankar to move the court to prove allegations of irregularities against him in India-Australia One Day Cricket Match held in Goa in 2001.
Mesquita was reacting to a police complaint filed by Tamhankar against him based on Pendse committee report that alleged criminal conspiracy by Goa Cricket Association (GCA) managing committee members by printing bogus tickets for the cricket match.
Tamhankar has also named GCA Chairman Vinod Fadke in the complaint filed early this week.
“There are three types of people: those who don’t know to read, those who read and don’t understand and those who read and understand. As far as I know Tamhankar belongs to the second group and therefore he makes such statements and files an FIR…” Mesquita told Herald.
The NRI Commissioner has challenged Tamhankar to file a case in the Court “if he has any courage of conviction and implement the Pendse report as far as I am concerned.”
Mequita referred to his previous press conference wherein he called Tamhankar ‘conductor-turned-Congress spokesman’.
“If he is hurt (with the comments) then he can ask my apology but not (display) his ignorance by filing false FIRs. I have referred the matter to my advocate for necessary action to be taken on this ‘conductor turned Congress spokesman’,” he said further denying any illegalities or irregularities on his part.
The Porvorim police, which has received the complaint is conducting preliminary inquiry before registering the case.
