PANJIM: The Disability Rights Association of Goa (DRAG) has urged the State government to implement the Centre’s circular providing relaxation in age limit of 10 years and 100 per cent exemption in examination fees and provision of extra time and scribe for Persons with Disabilities (PwDs).
In a letter to the Director of Social Welfare, the DRAG President Avelino De Sa said that the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, Government of India has given benefits to persons with disability with regard to relaxation in age limit of 10 years, 100 per cent exemption in examination fees and provision of extra time and scribe for PwDs. But the same is not being implemented by the Goa Public Service Commission (GPSC) and other government departments in Goa.
De Sa further said that more than five years have passed since circular of the Ministry have been enacted and is has not been adopted by the State government thereby causing grave injustice to PwDs in the State.
According to De Sa, the Union Ministry issued Office Memorandum dated June 29, 2016 regarding age concession to the PwDs suffering from blindness or low vision; hearing impairment and locomotor disability or cerebral palsy for direct recruitment to civil posts/services under the Central government.
