DRAMAPUR: The Sirlim-Dramapur gram sabha on Sunday, which was specifically convened to discuss and oppose the recently hastily passed Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021, was adjourned due to lack of quorum.
After firmly declaring their staunch opposition to the Bill with an unanimous resolution passed during their regular panchayat meeting held on August 9, sarpanch Sanjana Chari had summoned a gram sabha with the sole agenda of discussing this Bill with the villagers.
Deputy sarpanch Olasrico Rodrigues said, “This gram sabha had to be adjourned due to lack of quorum.” The sole opposition panch of ward no 7, Netty Ferrao said, “This regular gram sabha with the topmost priority of the sole point agenda of discussing the Bhumiputra Bill was adjourned due to lack of quorum as there were few villagers.”
“The gram sevak pointed out that this meeting had to be adjourned to another date which the panchayat members accepted but this new date has not been decided,” she added.
“As one of the elected representatives of our village, I kindly request everybody’s support to resolve and pass a resolution at our body meeting held on August 9 in opposing the Goa Bhumiputra Adhikarini Bill 2021 and further the Goa Panchayat Raj (Amendment) Bill 2021 as the government intends to regularise encroachments on comunidade land,” stated Netty in her letter also addressed to the Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and the local Velim MLA and Water Resources Minister Filipe Nery Rodrigues.
Despite several attempts, sarpanch Sanjana Chari was unavailable for comments.
