MAPUSA: A car driver escaped unhurt after his car hit a stray cow which suddenly appeared on the Mapusa-Siolim road, Thursday morning.
A car driver had a harrowing experience when a cow suddenly appeared on the main road, resulting in a collision with the speeding vehicle. The cow was injured and bleeding following the collision. The impact resulted in major damage to the car, including its bonnet, windows, radiator and headlights.
Expressing frustration, the car driver criticized the civic authorities f
or their apparent negligence, emphasizing the need for proper arrangements to manage stray cattle on the roads.
Local residents highlighted that these cattle are often abandoned by their owners, forcing them to roam freely on the streets, endangering the lives of commuters.
The streets of Goa are witnessing an increasing number of accidents due to the presence of numerous stray cattle. Recently, two incidents occurred in different parts of the state due to this cattle menace.
Siolim has about 800 stray cattle who feed on randomly disposed garbage. The issue has
been debated in the gram sabha on several occasions, but no solution has been forthcoming.
Last Monday, a 20-year-old youth from Pansule, Dharbandora, sustained serious injuries after his bike collided with a cow sitting on the road, at Par Usgao. There were no lights along that road and hence the rider could not spot the cow.
A few days prior, four cattle were killed and one injured on Dhavali bypass when a heavy vehicle ran over them, early morning. Similar incidents have occurred on the Curti-Kerya Dharbandora Road, causing multiple accidents.
Several years ago, a tragic accident at Paunwada, Kavlem resulted in serious injuries to youth, while a cow was killed after being struck by a bike.
