PANJIM: Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik on Thursday said that drugs are the main cause of all the illegal and criminal activities in Goa and that the State government has to take steps to resolve the drugs issue.
Extending his full support to the State government and Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte in weeding out the illegalities in the tourism businesses, Naik said, “I am sure it will. The Government of India will extend all necessary co-operation to the State to fight against the menace. Centre will also think over imposing curbs on illegal activities in tourism sector across India as done by Goa government. Such activities spoil the name of the country and need to be curbed.”
Reacting to Naik’s statement, TMC media coordinator Trajano D’Mello said TMC’s stance on drugs spreading in Goa has not only been a killer of so many youth and the cause of increasing crime rate, stands vindicated by none other than a tall BJP leader and Union Minister Shripad Naik.
Trajano demanded that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant should respond with responsibility and admit that the drug menace is alarming and that he would do everything in earnest to put an end to this man-made disaster.
“Why hasn’t our State Tourism Minister refuted the charge? Just two days ago I had questioned the Tourism Minister’s silence on the drug menace. While he was in the Opposition he was pointing fingers at the present CM in turning a blind eye to drugs in the State,” he said.
