PONDA: Collem locals were horrified again as the Dudhsagar river water turned muddy on Thursday.
Locals who drink the contaminated water fear that it would have a detrimental effect on their health.
The water of the river has turned reddish from Collem till Opa. It may be recalled that a landslide had occurred near the railway tunnel which is close to Dudhsagar Falls.
The issue is suspected to be linked to a mining company based in Kalay discharging its contaminated water into the river.
It may be recalled that earlier Kirlapal youth had warned officials that they would protest in front of the company’s gates if the release of slurry in the river was not stopped. The company then stopped releasing the muddy waters into the river.
Some locals suspect that the closed mines could be the source of the muddy water.
