VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council on Tuesday decided to take penal action against garbage dumping at the black spots within its jurisdiction.
The Council will be taking up the exercise of tracking down and penalising the persons dumping garbage in open instead of complying with door-to-door collection.
The team of the MMC had earlier spotted 34 black spots prone to garbage dumping in the town areas. Despite cleaning these spots, the people have resorted to dumping of garbage here creating nuisance.
In a joint meeting held with Vasco police, traffic cell on Tuesday, the Council decided to have a patrolling vehicle which is going to track down persons dumping garbage in the open and fine them.
The Council will have a 24 hour patrolling vehicle assisted by the Police and will fine the persons found dumping garbage in the open. People will also be urged to take photos of garbage problem areas or photos of persons dumping garbage in the open so that they can be taken to task.
The Council has also decided to confiscate the vehicle that is used in these acts.
The Council had recently increased the cost of door-to-door garbage fee from Rs 40 to Rs 60.
