PANJIM: Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Saturday confirmed that salvaging firm from Holland, Master Marine, has been finalised to salvage the grounded vessel Nu-Shi Nalini.
“Master Marine Company from Holland has been finalised to salvage the vessel and the work order will be issued either today (Saturday) or Monday. It is one of the best companies for salvaging,” he said. The salvaging operation, he added, will commence soon after the work order followed by arrangements of the required equipment. “The team is in discussion,” he further said.
Taking responsibility of the operations, the Director General of Shipping had a week ago formed a five-member committee comprising of its officials, Goa Chief Secretary and Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) to execute the task.
“The only risk is to shift the naphtha to another ship and they (the firm) have to undertake all the precautions while carrying out the process. This is why there is some delay but there’s nothing to worry. Government is taking all the precautions,” Sawant had said last week.
In a submission before the High Court of Judicature at Bombay, MPT had said that the grounded vessel poses imminent danger owing to its bottom breaking and 2000 tonnes of naphtha on board the vessel together with diesel and heavy oil leaking into the sea and endanger marine life.
