MARGAO: Asserting that work at the Sonsodo waste dumping site is satisfactory, but needs to be put on top gear, Deputy Chief Minister Francis D’Souza on Monday directed the Margao Municipal Chief Officer to appoint a consultant to verify the bills submitted by Fomento Green
Foul odour welcomed the Urban Development Officer as he visited the Sonsodo site along with Director of Municipal Administration, Sandeep Jacques, MMC Chairperson Arthur D’Souza, Chief Officer, Sandhya Kamat, besides Fomento Green CEO Sridar Kamat and former Fatorda MLA Damu Naik.

“Sonsodo is moving. The pace, however, is not upto the mark. It should be fast. The process of disposal started in mid-December. It will take eight weeks time, wherein the plant will be fully functional”, he said, adding that Fomento should take up work on the land fill site and complete the same by May end.
Replying to a question, he said the MMC has been told to get the Concession agreement modified to include the 50,000 sq mts of land handed over to Fomento Green by the Civic body. He replied in the positive when asked whether any adjustments will be effected in the financial aspects of the agreement given that the Civic body has agreed to go for capping of the existing site.
On the payments to Fomento Green, he said while the government has given money to the Civic body, the same has not reached Fomento Green for want of a consultant to certify the bills.
Replying to a question, he agreed that MMC requires a full time Chief Officer, adding that the Civic body will get a full-fledged CO within next few weeks. The minister wondered as to why there should be n objection to biometric reader when many Civic bodies have installed them.
