Dy CM urges farmers to venture into organic farming

Zonal Agriculture Office opened at Sanguem

SANGUEM: Deputy Chief Minister and Agriculture Minister Vijai Sardessai inaugurated the long awaited new office of Zonal Agriculture Office, at Pajimol, Sanguem, recently.
The new office is housed in a renovated and new look premise of old government quarters, which earlier housed the officials, who worked for the construction of Selaulim Dam.
As the rented premise, which housed the Zonal Agriculture Office was not sufficient enough for the smooth functioning of its office, so the zonal agricultural officials made the move to shift the office in the vacant and more spacious government quarters, at Pajimol, Sanguem.
Speaking at the inaugural function, Sardessai urged the agriculturists to venture into organic farming while assuring additional benefits for those involved into organic farming. 
He urged the Sanguem MLA Prasad Gaonkar to motivate the farmers in Sanguem to involve into organic farming along with traditional. Speaking further Sardessai assured to look into solving the agricultural water supply problem faced by the farmers in Sanguem, particularly those residing at Curdi-Wadem and Neturlim.  
The idea of regulating the water supply as proposed by MLA Gaonkar will be considered and looked after, claimed Sardessai further adding that the problem of wild animals straying into the villages will also be solved with the government move to plant fruit bearing trees and construction of water ponds in the jungle areas for the livelihood of the wild animals.
Sardessai also inaugurated the Krishi Mahotsav at Pajimol, which was attended by a large number of agriculturists from Sanguem, MLA Gaonkar, South Goa Zilla Parishad Chairman Navnath Naik, Director of Agriculture Madhav Kelkar, Deputy Director of Agriculture Neville Alphonso, Chairperson Sanguem Municipal Council Romualdo Fernandes, Sarpanch Uguem Arjun Naik, ZAO Sanguem Raghunath Morajkar and others.
