MARGAO: Savitri Kavlekar, wife of Deputy Chief Minister Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar has joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) along with Diya Shetkar another Congress officer bearer and 200 other block-level members and workers of Congress.
Savitri was the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee general secretary.
BJP President Vinay Tendulkar, NRI Commissioner and former South Goa Member of Parliament Adv Narendra Sawaikar, General Secretary of BJP Damu Naik, South Goa BJP Chief Sarvanand Bhagat and others were present at the function.
Narendra Sawaikar said, “I feel this is a milestone for BJP South Goa workers. We today see that the government under Pramod Sawant is working strong and entering BJP from Congress has increased our strength. It will be useful to strengthen the roots of BJP.”
Tendulkar thanked the people for accepting the membership of BJP.
The new member of BJP Savitr said, “Four months ago when Babu entered along with nine others in BJP, I had resigned from Congress as I did not consider it right on the moral grounds. Block, youth, Mahila, Seva Dal, and all main workers of Congress have joined BJP. We will do all the work that BJP entrusts us.”
When asked whether there is any assurance of Sanguem ticket from the BJP, Savitri informed that there is no issue of the ticket here. Our aim is to reach the development to the people and children. We have got inspired by the way Goa is developing under Chief Minister Pramod Sawant is working.
Around 200 men and women from various blocks of Quepem Sanguem Canacona and other areas were present.
