MARGAO: Congress MLA Aleixo Reginaldo Lourenco on Friday demanded that the government should change the contractors if they are not capable of meeting the deadlines of completing the South Goa District Hospital, for which the foundation stone was laid 11 years ago on 30th December 30, 2008.
Aleixo in a letter addressed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant mentioned that capable persons be entrusted the task of completing the hospital in a time frame.
While pointing out that it is extremely difficult to travel to Panjim given the chaos at Cortalim and Agassaim bypass which results in patients being taken to Goa Medical College succumbing en route to the hospital.
He also drew attention to the fact that Hospicio is also in a dilapidated condition at the moment.
“Why is South Goa being deprived of a medical complex like GMC and people of South Goa want to know why the South Goa District Hospital is not being completed even though they also pay all their taxes,” said Aleixo.
He lamented that only façade of the hospital building keeps getting a new coat of paint while no work is carried out inside.
He said, “People of South Goa are getting fed up with the changing dates for commissioning of the hospital.”
