PANJIM: A first of its kind consumer interaction with Electricity Department officials will be held at Chorao, on Saturday. GOACAN, a forum which has been taking up civic and consumer related issues, has said it will herald a new chapter in the way consumers address the challenges they face in electricity usage.
The Electricity Consumers Outreach Program (ECOP) being organised by the Electricity Department and GOACAN is meant to address day-to-day problems faced by the electricity consumers as well as fill up the information gaps that exist by which consumers will be able to get better outcomes from the infrastructure as well as the service providers.
The decision to launch these programmes was taken by the Electricity Department Chief Engineer Reshma Mathew after a series of meetings with GOACAN volunteers and feedback provided by ground level consumer surveys conducted by various Consumer Forums.
“In preparation for this initiative, meetings with executive engineers, assistant engineers and junior engineers were held in Panjim and Margao to brief them on the main features of the Consumer Protection Act 1986, the existing Grievance Redressal Mechanism and the experiences of matters that have come before the Consumer Conciliation Committee of the Department of Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs,” Roland Martin of GOACAN said.
