MARGAO: The district authorities on Thursday felicitated the eight life guards who were part of the team to rescue fishermen at Colva and Mobor last month, but Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva maintained that the authorities ignored the services of the two fishermen from Mobor involved in the rescue mission.
Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado presented mementos to the eight life guards at the Independence Day celebrations at the South Goa District Collectorate on Thursday. The eight life guards rescued fishermen at Colva and Mobor after their motorised canoes capsized in the rough sea.
Benaulim MLA Caitu Silva, who attended the Independence Day celebrations, expressed his unhappiness that the authorities failed to take cognisance of the contribution made by two fishermen from Mobor to save the struggling fishermen. He said that Jesus D’Costa and Roy Barretto had ventured out in the rough sea and managed to rescue one fishermen when their canoe had capsized in the sea. “The authorities should have also recognised their services,” he added.
