The authorities are exploring the possibility of laying a dedicated water line from Arlem to the city to maintain water pressure in the fire hydrants. The authorities also inspected the old fish market to demarcate land for the proposed overhead water tank reservoir to lay a dedicated line for the fire hydrants.
Fire Officer Gill de Souza, PWD assistant engineer Vijai Kudchadkar, PI Traffc Prabodh Shirwaikar inspected a number of points in the city for the installation of the hydrants. After the inspection, it was resolved to install fire hydrants opposite Bank of India, opposite Kohinoor Opticians, near Lohia Maidan, near Gaylin Restaurant, opposite old Collectorate building, near Post office, near Gomant Vidya Niketan and activate the old fire hydrant at the Margao police station. Kudchadkar told the media after the inspection that the PWD would immediately activate the old fire hydrant at the Margao police station and install one at GVN building on top most priority.
Replying to a question, Kudchadkar said the PWD would prepare an estimate for the proposed dedicated water supply line from Arlem to the city.
Meanwhile, though the agencies carried out inspection of the old fish market, the area for the proposed overhead tank could not be demarcated for want of the plan and design of the multi-storey parking lot. “The MMC architect, who had designed the parking lot has been asked to present the project plan and design to facilitate demarcation of the old fish market”, Kudchadkar said.
