MARGAO: After spending almost 4 days without electricity, the department on Wednesday restored power supply in entire Navelim constituency.
Executive Engineer Alvito Fernandes confirmed the development that by evening 100 per cent power was restored in Navelim constituency.
“At the moment we have made temporary arrangements to restore the power supply, as we cannot keep the people in darkness for too long. We have replaced few transformers, besides electricity poles which were damaged due to havoc created by Cyclone Tauktae”, he said.
Reportedly, Navelim was no exception from the havoc Cyclone Tauktae created across the State damaging several electrical poles and transformers.
He admitted that local MLA Luizinho Faleiro was continuously monitoring the power restoration works and revealed that locals helped the department staff in a big way.
MLA Luizinho Faleiro thanked his volunteers, locals, and staff of the Electricity Department for restoring the power supply.
“My office was like a war room, as I was doing the follow-ups with the authorities. We succeeded in 100 per cent power restoration by Wednesday evening”, he said.
“We tried to replace HT lines and repaired LT lines. Transformers were replaced at Davorlim, Cruznagar-Navelim, opposite the Church, and now all lines are in place. I had promised people of 100 per cent power restoration”, said Luizinho.
Aquem-Baixo panch Siddesh Bhagat said they saw that the Power Department was facing staff crunch and hence the youth and locals moved out of their houses and helped them restore the power supply.
“We helped the staff of Electricity Department to remove the trees fallen on the electric poles and hence the credit goes to locals, youth and the staff too”, he said.
