PANJIM: After the State Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department extended the date regarding the supply of food grains for May, the Civil Supplies Minister clarified that there is enough stock in the State and asked citizens not to panic.

“Due to the breakdown of network and power outage due the devastation caused by the Tauktae cyclone in many parts of Goa, Government of Goa has decided to extend the distribution cyclone of food grains up to May 27 instead of May 21,” read the public statement issued by Sidhivinayak S Naik, Director Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs
Speaking to media on Wednesday, Civil Supplies Minister Govind Gaude said that presently, 3,800 metric tonnes of food grain quota is available in the State. He added that another quota of 1,500 metric tonnes of food grain will reach Goa after May 21.
“Everyone will get their ration quota of food grains. The members of the public should not panic,” Gaude added.
Incidentally, The Union Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution also issued a statement, stating that Goa is amongst the 15 States and Union Territories that lifted their respective quota allocation of food grains from Food Corporation of India (FCI) depots for May 2021 under the PMGKAY scheme, which is aimed at ameliorating the hardship faced by the poor due to economic disruption caused by COVID-19.
