Empty chairs with ruling MLAs’ names stood witness to their rejection of the people’s call

Goa’s ruling and supporting MLAs on Monday rejected the invite by Save Mhadei Save Goa Front for the mega public meeting in the outskirts of Sankhali constituency.

While there were no chairs left for the people who came for the meeting from places as distant as Canacona and Dharbandora, over 30 chairs right in front of the dais remained empty. These chairs reserved for ruling and supporting MLAs of the government, would then become the most important mention of each speaker who came in solidarity towards the cause of saving River Mhadei.

Hrudaynath Shirodkar said, “People will have to question all the MLAs who remained absent today despite sending them an invite for this apolitical meeting. Today we pledge that we will not stand or support the political representatives who are not standing with us for the genuine cause.”

The main speaker environmentalist Rajendra Kerkar said, “This is a question of our very existence. All the MLAs have to study the matter. MLAs never came when I made an attempt to inform them regarding Mhadei. If we don’t have information about our State, its environmental heritage and Mhadei then there is no point in putting so much effort.”
