The period of ten days within which the Goa University was to submit the inquiry report into the scandalous and embarrassing MBBS paper leakage ended on Saturday, even as reliable sources indicated that the same would likely be made known by Monday.
A top university official said by Monday (January 17) evening they hope to get the report that is expected to nail the culprits practically involved in leaking the two third-year General Medicine papers.
Herald had exposed the leakage after which the University constituted a committee which confirmed the incident and thereafter set up another committee for a thorough probe.
However, when two of the committee members were contacted to confirm whether the report was ready for tabling, both refused to refused to comment saying it wouldn’t be right on their part to do so.
It is learnt the committee has recorded statements of most of the students who were recipients of the leaked questions. However, according to insiders, the finger in the whole episode points to an associate professor, but the possibility of the involvement of more than one person was also not ruled out.
Sources said the whole incident has resulted due to interdepartmental rivalry and the committee probing the episode has taken note of it and may highlight this aspect in its report. The leakage has left the Goa Medical College attaining a bad reputation given the fact it’s Asia’s first medical college.
