A day after tasting success in identifying the headless body found at Nessai, the Maina Curtorim police have said the body is that of one Sultan Bellary, an accused in burglaries and thefts in the State.
A team of Maina Curtorim police headed by PSI Paresh Naik has left for Bellary for confirmation of the man’s identity with his parents and relatives and to track down on his associates.
What led the police to believe that the headless was that of Sultan was the examination of finger prints by the experts in coordination with the Maina Curtorim police.
Sources in the know said that police had taken the finger prints of the deceased when he was arrested by the Bicholim police and Ponda police in burglaries. When the headless body was found at Nessai on January 11, the police immediately requisitioned the services of finger print experts, with the men-in-uniform saying that the fingers prints of the deceased has matched with that of accused Sultan.
Margao Sub-divisional Police officer, DySP Umesh Gaonkar told newsmen that the police now suspect that the body found at Nessai was that of Sultan Bellary. “We cannot say 100 per cent that the body found at Nessai is that of Sultan’s. We have to still confirm many aspects. But, right now, the police strongly suspects that it is Sultan’s body”, he added.
DySP Gaonkar said that with the Maina Curtorim police almost establishing the identity of the deceased, the police will now try to take the investigations to its logical conclusion. IN this respect, he said the police will not track down on the associates of the deceases for interrogations to throw light on the cold blooded murder.
Complimenting the Maina Curtorim police led by PI Sidhant Shirodkar, DySP Gaonkar exuded confidence of achieving a breakthrough in the sensational case.
Dysp Umesh Gaonkar, PI Sidhant Shirodkar and PSI Paresh Naik were closeted with the Superintendent of Police, South Allan De Sa on Saturday morning to take stock of the case following the identification of the deceased and to chalk out future course of investigations.
