PANJIM: The electronic dance music festivals starting from Thursday as well as the upcoming Lusofonia Games, scheduled from January 18 to 29, 2014 will have to shell out extra money in the form of taxes.
In a notification issued on Tuesday, Goa government has fixed 25 percent entertainment tax on ticket sales at events having a crowd of over 2,000 people. Similarly, tax on tickets of Rs 500 and above for all sporting events has been fixed at 10 per cent. Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had introduced Goa Entertainment Tax (amendment) Bill, 2013 during the Legislative Assembly session earlier this year. The government had said the mechanism to monitor sale of tickets at big events will be done through commercial tax department.
With the coming into force of the Act, event management companies will have to deposit the entertainment tax payable on the estimated ticket sales in advance.
The two EDMs – Supersonic at Candolim, which will be held from December 26 to 30 and Sunburn scheduled from December 27 to 29 at Vagator, is expected to draw several lakh visitors from across the globe. While simultaneously several New Year parties have been organised across the State all of which are also likely to attract huge crowd.
