PANJIM: The High Court of Bombay at Goa on Wednesday censured the Economic Offences Cell (EOC) of Goa Police over the laxity in probing the multi-crore scam of Margao based Kamakshi Forex that allegedly duped over 800 investors.
After perusing the case papers, the court was not satisfied with the investigation and told Advocate General Saresh Lotlikar that the case may have to handed over to a competent investigation authority like Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The Court said it would pass appropriate orders to that effect on October 3.
Advocate Aires Rodrigues representing Selvino Gonsalves, a Varca seaman who was allegedly duped to the tune of Rs 12,24,013, sought that the case be handed over to CBI and submitted that Goa Police were hand in glove with Nilesh Raikar who owns the firms.
Rodrigues submitted to the Court that Goa Police, which had recently gone overboard in probing certain other cases, was dragging its feet while conducting a superficial probe into the Rs 55 crore scam.
Adv Arun Bras de Sa drew the Court’s attention to the fact that EOC had not sought to probe where Raikar had diverted and parked the Rs 55 crore.
