PONDA: The Kerya-Khandepar villagers on Saturday demanded erection of ‘speed breakers’ and painting of ‘Zebra crossing’, for the safety of locals, on the newly constructed four-lane highway passing through their village
Addressing the media, Curti-Khandepar Sarpanch Santan Fernandes said that on both the sides of national highway there is residential area; besides, there is a chapel and a school.
“The devotees visiting the chapel and children going to school have to cross road. But after the construction of the four-lane highway, they are facing hardship due to the speeding vehicles. We were demanding an underpass here which is under consideration by NH authorities,” he said.
“We, the elder people go to attend Sunday Mass in the chapel and have to cross the highway. It becomes difficult for us to cross the road,” Fernandes said.
Sebby Dias, a villager, said there are three wards at Kerya and during funerals, they have to cross the road carrying the body to the cemetery for burial. “However, due to the speeding vehicles, it has become difficult for us to cross,” Dias said.
