MAYEM: Villagers of Chorla Ghat, Surla area have demanded that the State government adopt measures to control eve-teasing in the area.
Villagers claimed that tourists, especially from neighbouring states, visit Chorla ghat for sightseeing and are involved in teasing local girls and women under the influence of alcohol. They alleged that police are turning a blind eye towards the misdeeds of tourists, despite their complaints.
It is learnt that there is rise in number of tourists visiting Chorla Ghat area, especially on Sundays and holidays. Sources informed that there has also been increase in shops selling liquor along with a rise in number of tourists, who, after drinking liquor, start misbehaving with local girls and women.
An environmentalist, Sangam Patil, said tourists often visit a spot called ‘Paykacho Sado’, which is famous for cool breeze and organising night parties, disturbing the peace of the locals.
“If the State government wants to retain the exiting natural beauty of this area, then it is necessary that police control these tourists,” added Patil.
Villagers have therefore requested Tourism Minister Deelip Parulekar to look into the matter and instruct police to keep a proper watch on the tourists.
