Everyone is duty bound to enrich Konkani: Gov

MARGAO: Governor Bharat Vir Wancho on Monday said that it is the duty of everyone to collectively make sincere efforts to further enrich Konkani language and its literature to bring about social integration and culture progress.

MARGAO: Governor Bharat Vir Wancho on Monday said that it is the duty of everyone to collectively make sincere efforts to further enrich Konkani language and its literature to bring about social integration and culture progress.
“I would like to say that Konkani, which is the official language of the state is a mellifluous, melodious and musical language, one which has a rich and remarkable literature. I have no hesitation in saying that the sweetness of the people of Goa, flowing from their hearts, is always reflected in this unique language, which is well articulated and has given Goa a district identity”, the governor said, while speaking at a function organised by Konkani Bhasha Mandal on the occasion of its 51st anniversary on Monday.
Saying that India is an abode of the time-tested and celebrated virtue of “Unity in Diversity” and is therefore fabulously rich in language, literature, art and culture, Wancho said that there are innumerable and well-intentioned organisations like the Konkani Bhasha Mandal, who functioning as instruments of social and national integration and cohesions. 
“Together, all of us should continue to strive hard to strengthen these delicate fibres and the inherent values, in order to hold our great country together as one people and one spirit”, he said.
The governor later handed over the annual awards instituted by the KBM to the awardees in the presence of KBM president Chetan Acharya, vice-president Serafino Cota, secretary Anwesha Singbal and others.
The annual service to Konkani language award went to Babay Vernekar, Konkani Journalism award to Dr Madhavi Sardesai, Konkani teacher award to Vinanti Kansar, Konkani activist award to Rajendra Naik, the literary award to Sharon Fernandes, Yadistik Sahitya award to Harsha Shetye, KBM’s Sahitya award to Ajay Buva, Balsahitya award to Saraswati Naik and Yadistic Stambh Lekhan award to Madhav Bastodkar.
