VASCO: A person suspected in a series of thefts attacked a police constable in a bid to escape at Maimollem-Vasco, but he along with two others were nabbed a short while later.
The incident took place as Local Investigation Bureau (LIB) Police Constable Vikram Kandolkar, who is attached to Vasco Police station, was on his way to Mangor to investigate a theft case.
“On my way, I noticed three thieves, Satish Reddy (25) of Mangor, Venkatesh alias Appati Chalwadi (22) of Pixe-Dongri and Parshuram Nillappa Banssur (22) of Hubli but residing at Navelim, sitting near the sewerage tank at Maimollem with a hammer and other equipment,” informed Kandolkar.
“Since I knew that Chalwadi and Reddy had been arrested in previous theft cases, I stopped to question them, when Parshuram tried to flee from the site,” added Kandolkar.
“I caught hold of Parshuram’s hand, but he struck me with a hammer on my head and the trio fled from the site,” informed Kandolkar.
Acting swiftly, Kandolkar alerted his colleagues at Vasco Police station and after a hot chase, Reddy was caught at the railway station, while Parshuram was nabbed near State Bank of India at Vasco and Chalwadi was nabbed at Pixe Dongre, Vasco. Kandolkar was referred to Chicalim Cottage Hospital, where he received three stitches on his head and was discharged later.
Sources at Vasco Police informed that they suspect that the three accused are involved in the Vasco petrol pump cash theft case. Vasco Police arrested all the accused and PSI John Fernandes is investigating.
