Mormugao ‘Cha Raja’ Shed: High Court Refuses to Stay Demolition Order

The High Court has refused to stay its earlier order directing the Chief Officer of the Mormugao Municipal Council to demolish the illegal shed popularly known as “Mormugao Cha Raja”.

In a contempt petition, the High Court had directed the Chief Officer to demolish the shed by August 28. The structure was allegedly constructed illegally on property belonging to the Mormugao Port Authority, which is the petitioner in the matter.

The court’s refusal to defer the demolition means the municipal authorities are required to proceed in accordance with the earlier direction.
