PANJIM: Old Goa police arrested former Chimbel sarpanch Helena Lourenco for allegedly threatening residents of a housing colony and manhandling a lady police personnel.
Police, taking cognisance of a complaint filed by one Seeta Sardesai, booked Lourenco under Sections 341 (wrongful restraint), 504 (intentional insult with intention to provoke breach of peace), 506 (ii) (criminal intimidation) and 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) of the Indian Penal Code.
As per the complaint, Lourenco has been threatening the Sardesai family and others. The complainant cited a fresh incident on Friday wherein Lourenco’s car was ‘wrongfully restraining the entry and exit of the entire colony’.
She claimed that previously while her husband was clearing the debris of the repair works carried out in the colony, the accused abused him and few other colony members with filthy language and threatened them of dire consequences. When Seeta tried to intervene, she too had to face the wrath of the former sarpanch.
The complainant claimed that after a complaint to the Old Goa PS, Lourenco manhandled the lady police personnel when they tried to amicably solve the issue.
Police thereafter registered an offence and arrested her. The former sarpanch, while speaking to reporters denied allegations claiming she is being harassed by some colony residents and police were not acting on her complaint.
