Excise outpost at Tiracol turning into white elephant

PERNEM: The Excise outpost on the banks of Kiranpani-Tiracol which was reconstructed by spending crores of rupees of public money is yet to be inaugurated.

The building was constructed after obtaining a valid license from Goa Coastal Zone Management Authority. The building houses an excise outpost on the upper floor while the ground floor is meant for the residential purpose of officials and employees. The building also has provision to store the illegal alcohol seized during the excise department’s operations.

Despite being well-equipped and located amidst scenic countryside, the beautiful structure is unoccupied. Bushes and wild trees have grown all over the place making it impossible for people to move around.  The locals are demanding that the government hand over the building for its intended use so that it does not turn into another white elephant in the taluka.
