PANJIM: Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) election in-charge of Goa, Devendra Fadnavis will hold on-to-one interaction with ministers and legislators against the backdrop of possible resentment among some leaders.
Last weekend, BJP’s Nuvem MLA Wilfred D’Sa made a startling claim that he has offers from Congress leaders to contest the upcoming polls on their party ticket. His statement comes days after Minister Michael Lobo said that Congress and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) approached him with offers to join their parties.
Earlier this month, MGP MLA Sudin Dhavalikar claimed that a number of “unhappy” BJP leaders met him while indicating that political realignments will be visible after Ganesh Chaturthi. Amidst some disturbing moments within the national party, Fadnavis-led team’s meeting with the sitting and past legislators will be crucial.
“Fadnavis will individually meet Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, ministers and the MLAs; as well as office-bearers. Whatever grievances/views they have will be conveyed to him. Various other issues will also be discussed. The party is going strong as these minor issues will be appropriately handled. We have already geared up for the upcoming polls and are confident of winning an absolute majority,” party sources said.
In July, BJP National President J P Nadda arrived on a two-day visit which is when he too held a series of meetings with nearly 100 office-bearers of state BJP, including ministers and MLAs. His packed schedule also included one-to-one meetings with the legislators.
Lobo after the meeting had told reporters that the party is now in election mode and Nadda is here for assessment and guide the party.
BJP State President Sadanand Shet Tanavade said that its leaders’ visit to Goa is to discuss party matters, for guidance and for encouragement to party leaders and workers ahead of the polls.
Asked about D’Sa’s statement and possible resentment in the party, Tanavade told Herald, “None have expressed it to me but if they do so, I will discuss it with them. I will address their issues and convince them about the reality. We are a party which is ruling at the Centre and many states. We are a powerful party… Our election in-charge is coming to Goa on Sept 20 and he too will individually meet all the ministers, party office-bearers.”
