Fatorda Cong unit demands more tickets for tribals

MARGAO: The Fatorda Block Congress has appealed to Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) to give the tribal community sufficient representation in the forthcoming legislative assembly elections.

The Fatorda Congress has pointed out that there has been an uprising of Dalit/Bahujan Community across India and Goa. This is because of the unrest created due to the communal policies of the BJP government, both at the Centre and State.
“For the last many years, our community had been neglected and has fallen behind in India’s growth story. However, thanks to the past policies of the Congress-led government, many individuals from the tribal community have risen in various academic and professional fields such as business, medicine, engineering and teaching. We have been empowered to be independent. However, many more from our community are still struggling and suffering and have to be uplifted via policy reforms, by amending, scrapping old laws and bringing in new laws, expanding the mandate and strengthening the Tribal Commission,” said Joseph Vaz, Fatorda Block Congress member.
Vas also stated that the debates over Medium of Instruction (MoI) would not help to uplift students from the tribal community.
“Our children need schools where teachers and management treat them equal and also give special attention for educational growth,” said Vaz.
“There are many more issues that we need to address for which our community needs representation in the Goa Legislative Assembly,” he said.
“We appeal that the Congress sets the example by giving sufficient number of tickets to loyalists from the Tribal community,” demanded Vaz.
“For the last 15 years, Fatorda Constituency had been neglected, first by the BJP and then by the Independent MLA Vijai Sardesai. Both these entities used our community for votes and betrayed us. We cannot allow these entities to win in our Constituency again. We appeal that you consider giving the Fatorda Congress ticket to a capable and deserving individual from the Tribal community and support us in every way to make Congress victorious in Fatorda once again,” Vaz wrote as.
