Fatorda COVID cases: Govt for care centre

MARGAO: The outbreak of coronavirus cases in the thickly populated area of Chandrawado, Fatorda, has prompted the South Goa District Magistrate to establish a COVID Care Centre in the constituency.

On Monday, one of the patients who have been tested positive in Chandrawado was lodged in a private hospital. Medical Superintendent of District COVID Hospital Dr Ira Almeida informed that the count of Chandrawado COVID cases have increased to five at present and are likely to spike.

Blaming the government for rise in the number of cases, Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai said, “With the first COVID death now officially announced, and without having the excuse of attributing the community transmission to the seafarers who tested negative, it is clear ‘GoaFightsCOVID-19’ is a sham and a big failure. Each Goemkar has to be alert and fend for himself.”

“We in Fatorda are making provision for the ‘Fatordekars’ for COVID Care Centre. With spurt in community transmission of COVID-19 in State, we should not depend on the government and make provisions for our people. I have had discussions with South Collector Ajit Roy, IAS, and the Fatorda Indoor Stadium with 65 beds will be converted into a COVID Care Centre for the Fatorda people,” Vijai said.
