MARGAO: The JMFC Margao on Wednesday remanded all the three accused in the gruesome Chandrawado, Fatorda double murder case to five days police custody.

It may be recalled that the three accused — 20-year-old Akash Ghosh and 18-year-old Aditya Kumar, both residents of Jhumrithilaya-Koderma, Jharkhand and 18-year-old Rabin Kumar, a resident of Ghanshyampur-Dharbanga, Bihar – were arrested in Dadar by Goa Police and Mumbai Police, a night after committing the heinous crime.

The SP Pankaj Kumar Singh revealed that the two victims — 62-year-old Minguel Miranda and his 85-year-old mother-in-law Catarina Pinto– were beaten to death with iron rods and dumped in the bags. The trio later escaped on the victim’s scooter.

SP Singh stressed the importance of tenant verification while people rent out their houses to others.

Singh said the motive of the crime was a dispute over payment. The accused after committing the crime took away a few articles from the house which have been recovered.

Three mobiles, one gold chain with locket belonging to Catarina, 4 passbooks of Canara Bank and 2 passbooks of Bank Of India belonging to the son of the victim, driving licence, PAN card, Aadhaar card belonging to Minguel were recovered.

“A knife used in commission of the crime has been recovered at the instance of the accused. Further investigation are in progress,” said SP South Goa.

SP informed that they have noticed a few cases wherein people have rented out their premises to tenants and have failed to submit the verification forms.

“Taking advantage of such situations there have been cases where crimes have been committed and attempts have been made by the accused persons to flee the State,” Singh recalled.

“The tenant verification forms are available on the Goa Police portal. Completing the tenant verification will help Goa Police to create a safer environment for the people,” the SP added.
