MARGAO: A day after the gruesome double murder reported at Chandrawado-Fatorda, Goa Police along with its Mumbai counterparts on Tuesday cracked the case by nabbing the three accused in Dadar.

The three — 20-year-old Akash Ghosh and 18-year-old Aditya Kumar, both residents of  Jhumrithilaya- Koderma, Jharkhand and 18-year-old Rabin Kumar, a resident of Ghanshyampur-Dharbanga, Bihar — were arrested for the alleged gruesome double murder of 62-year-old Minguel Miranda and his 85-year-old mother-in-law Catarina Pinto. The senior citizens were found lying in a pool of blood and wrapped with plastic material in a storeroom located behind their house on Monday.

Superintendent of Police Pankaj Kumar Singh said, “On March 8, at around 9.30 am Valentino Miranda, son of the Minguel in his complaint to the Fatorda Police had stated that his father had been murdered by the labourers who were staying in a room behind their house. Accordingly, the police team reached the crime spot and found Minguel and Catarina lying in a pool of blood. They had sustained blunt and sharp injuries.”

Three labourers were found missing along with the victim’s scooter. A murder case was registered at Fatorda Police Station and multiple teams were formed to trace the trio. However, the victims’ family had no details of the absconding labourers.

“Considering the gravity of the case the staffers from Margao and Vasco Sub-divisions were roped in under the leadership of Margao SDPO Harish Madkaikar and overall supervision of DIG Parmaditya” informed SP Singh.

Following an extensive search, the scooter was found at the Vasco Railway Station. Searches were conducted at Vasco and Margao Railway Stations.

Through technical analysis and intelligence collection all three accused were traced in Dadar, Mumbai.

Immediately the Fatorda team with the help of local police apprehended the three accused, who were planning their escape to Jharkhand.

Later they confessed to the gruesome double murder and are being brought to Goa for further investigation.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday congratulated Goa Police for their swift action in cracking the double murder case in Fatorda and apprehending the culprits within 24 hours. “Our police department is alert”, he said.
