MARGAO: Fatorda Police on Friday evening registered a case against former Margao Municipal Council chairperson Arthur D’Silva for disobeying an order circulated by a public servant and for endangering public life by doing things that could spread infection diseases.
Arthur was booked under Sections 188 and 269 of the Indian Penal Code following a complaint registered by Prataprao Gaunker who is Assistant Returning Officer for Margao Municipal Elections and the Mamlatdar for Salcete.
As per the complaint Prataprao Gaunker saw Arthur moving around in a car near Shivam Restaurant in Fatorda where being a candidate he was campaigning and soliciting votes despite tested COVID positive.
The Assistant Returning Officer said the act of moving around was in total violation of the Epidemic Diseases Act and rules for COVID published by the Goa government and hence demanded action against Arthur.
Police have booked a case against him but investigations are yet to commence as Arthur is COVID positive and cannot be called for questioning.
