PANJIM: Ensuring the safety of consumers, the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has directed all food business operators to immediately stop using staple pins to pack food articles. FDA Director Salim Veljee in an ‘alert notice’ issued to all food business operators directed the immediate stoppage of use staple pins to pack food articles, so that the consumers are not placed at any undue risk.
“Consumers should also be vigilant and insist with food vendors not to use staple pins,” he said.
Veljee said that recently, the department has come across complaints from consumers on the use of staple pins to pack food articles in plastic or paper bags, instead of sealing it using a thermal unit or cello-adhesive types of paper bags.
