FDA seizes substandard sweets and savouries in slew of raids across Margao

Bangalore bakery at Navelim was shut down due to its unhygienic conditions and Bangalore Iyengar bakery at Aquem Goa was also closed as they had not obtained a valid licence.

MARGAO: Ahead of Diwali, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) continued its surprise surveillance inspections of sweet manufacturers and bakeries in and around Margao. The premises of Kantilal Prajapat at Shantinagar was raided, and 590 kg of mawa (milk-based sweet) worth Rs 1,20,000 which was seized by FDA officials was destroyed at Sonsoddo, with the help of the Margao Municipal Council.

Bangalore bakery at Navelim was shut down due to its unhygienic conditions and Bangalore Iyengar bakery at Aquem Goa was also closed as they had not obtained a valid licence. The FDA confiscated food articles worth Rs 2, 790 due to lack of label declaration. The officials confiscated 9 kg of misbranded mixed farsan worth Rs 2,500 from a manufacturing unit in Aquem.
