VALPOI: The presence of a wild bison moving freely in Gommal area of Khotodem Panchayat, Valpoi has caused fear among the residents, who claim that the beast has damaged their crops and could attack them any moment.
According to villagers, on Sunday, a wild bison entered Gommal and was found moving near the village primary school. It is normal for a bison to enter the fields and destroy crops, but the villagers now fear that they could be attacked as the beast has started entering the residential area too.
The locals have called upon the government to act immediately.
“I saw a group of three bison near the field in the village. Later, they were seen moving along the road but entered the field,” informed Shashikant Paryekar, a villager.
“The bison, which is moving freely in the village, is wounded with his left eye damaged. The wounded bison is dangerous and can attack the villagers any moment,” said Ratnakant Paryekar, another villager.
Meanwhile, the Dongurli Thane panchayat on Monday submitted a memorandum to the Sattari Mamlatdar, Valpoi Police and Health Officer seeking protection to Dhangar children on humanitarian grounds, whose family members have been arrested for the four tiger deaths. The accused were the only bread earners of these families.
