MARGAO: If an overflowing underground sewage chamber made life difficult for commuters at the Arlem road junction, dust pollution has left local residents fuming, demanding immediate action by the PWD and Goa State Pollution Control Board.
Take strong exception to the utter neglect of the traffic junction at Arlem by the PWD and district authorities, a group of agitated youngsters called for urgent action by the PWD and the GSPCB to mitigate their hardships. “Local residents have to suffer dust pollution for no fault of theirs. There’s no mining activity here, but the road has turned dusty on account of the damage caused during the monsoons,” remarked an elderly citizen.
An activist Aston Soares expressed surprise that the authorities have so far failed to intervene and give solace to the local residents and commuters by repairing the road. “For whom are the authorities waiting for. The road should have been cleaned up by now. The junction has become an accident spot,” he pointed out.
His colleague, Jeron Colaco also echoed similar sentiments and demanded immediate action by the authorities. “So many accidents are taking place at the junction everyday, but the authorities appear least concerned about life and safety of people,” he added.
