PANJIM: The family of Swedish national Felix Dahl, who was found dead in Patnem, Canacona under mysterious circumstances on January 28, 2015, has sought the intervention of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar after Canacona Police have failed to investigate the murder case even after registering it six months ago.
The family has also approached the High Court of Bombay at Goa, seeking directions to transfer the murder case to the CBI and to set up a committee to investigate the ‘large number of foreign national deaths’ in Goa.
In her representation, Dahl’s mother, Minna Pirhonen, urged for an intervention into the matter to provide her justice. She wrote to the Chief Minister that the FIR was lodged by Canancona Police after 1.9 years of the crime and based on the directions of the local court.
She was forced to approach the court to get the FIR registered as murder as Canacona Police were not registering the death as murder.
“My son was beaten up the night before his death after which he asked for help from other tourists and said that his life was in danger. I have found out that the person who took my son to the place where he was found dead has been involved in burglaries and has attacked people before,” her representation to the Chief Minister states.
She further informed the Chief Minister that in spite of all the details given to Canacona Police, through several letters and e-mails, the police did not register an FIR.
“Now after more than six months since the FIR was registered, I am aghast to find out that the Canacona Police have stated in a report that the senior Police Inspector of Canacona Police Station is too busy to investigate and that yet many of the witnesses are not being traced,” Dahl’s mother said in a letter to CM.
She also informed CM that a writ petition has been also filed before HC following no response from the Police in terms of investigating the murder.
The State government has entrusted special public prosecutor S R Rivankar to appear on behalf of the state.
