PANJIM: Henrique Antunes Ferreira, former editor of a premier Portuguese national newspaper called for greater networking among journalists of the Lusophone world as well as, if possible, the setting up of a single window production and dissemination of news for the Lusophone world.
In the Lusophone World it is necessary to produce and disseminate news, mainly news which focuses on these countries and may be important for the Portuguese speaking nations,” Ferreira said in a talk given in Portuguese at the Fundação Oriente.
He however said that while the idea was important, it was not needed that this idea should be concretised immediately.
“One day it will happen and the sooner the better. It would be an excellent idea to create a mini organization which would and could use the Portuguese language on subjects which interest people who speak it,” Ferreira said.
Ferreira who married a Goan and who is currently on a holiday to the State said that he loves Goa and is very happy to be here.
Henrique Antunes Ferreira, former Chief Editor of the leading Portuguese Daily “Diário de Notícias” was speaking on the topic ‘experience of a journalist’.
During his career, Ferreira had even interviewed both Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi, which have been excerpted around the world including by O Heraldo, during its avataar as a Portuguese language newspaper.
The interaction was organized by the Lusophone Society of Goa, the Fundação Oriente and the Goa Union of Journalists.
