It was on December 12, 2012 that open dumping of garbage at the Sonsodo waste dump yard had come to a complete half for the first time since the site played host to the town waste over the decades. The reason is not far too seek: Fomento Green, a company floated by the Sociadade Fomento had commissioned its solid waste management plant as part of its grandiose plan to tackle Sonsodo waste at a cost of Rs 7.31 crore. A little over two years now and waste from the city continues to find its way into the waste treatment plant, but GUILHERME ALMEIDA discovers that a host of issues connected to the Sonsodo dumping yard still remains unresolved till date.
