Finally, a turtle nest at Agonda

CANACONA: A mother Olive Ridley turtle finally arrived at Agonda, where forest department runs one of the two protected turtle nesting centres in Canacona.

The workers engaged by Forest Department presently guard a single turtle nest, which is very close to the department’s turtle rehabilitation centre off Divanbag coast at Agonda beach.
According to forest sources, the mother turtle visited the beach at the end of October and the first batch of Olive Ridley babies could be released from this pit sometime at the end of this year.
Other than Morjim in Pernem taluka in the north, southern most taluka’s two beaches Galgibaga and Agonda, which are incidentally agog with tourism activities during the entire period of turtle nesting are earmarked as turtle nesting/protection site.
