PANJIM: Panjim police has registered an FIR against Gomantak Bhandari Samaj (GBS) in connection with cheating, forgery and misappropriation of funds.
FIR has been registered under section 120B, 153(A), 406, 420 and 468 of Indian Penal Code (IPC). Social activist Atish Mandrekar had registered a police complaint on December 5 alleging that the officer bearers of GBS are involved in promoting enmity between communities and caste and had accused them of breach of trust, fraud, cheating, forgery and misappropriation of funds.
The complainant had alleged that the office bearers of GBS on July31, 2012 had taken cash of Rs 505 to provide him with the life membership of GBS but so far has not provided such certificate nor returned his money.
Mandrekar also pointed out that as per the information procured under Right to Information Act (RTI), GBS is not a registered society and is using a fake registration number-1/106/62, allotted to Gomantak Kshatriya Bhandari Samaj.
“Office bearers of the Samaj are misguiding and misrepresenting the general public by using fake registration number thereby collecting money with the promise to enroll them as life members,” the complainant said.
