PANJIM: The Anti Corruption Branch (ACB) on Saturday registered an offence against Police Sub Inspector Prasanna Bhagat and Margao-based Vasudev Kundaikar for allegedly demanding and accepting Rs 10 lakh from an accused in another case.
The First Information Report (FIR) registered against the duo further accuses them of demanding another Rs 5 lakh from the Director of a firm in Porvorim, who is facing charges in another offence. The same Director thereafter approached the ACB with a complaint against the PSI and Kundaikar.
“The incident happened between July 2017 and February 2018 when the PSI and his alleged collection agent demanded money from the Director to hush up the case. They again demanded money threatening arrest which is when the Director lodged a complaint against them,” an official said.
During the offense period, PSI Bhagat was posted at Economic Offence Cell and is currently deployed at Goa Reserve Police.
The police department has not yet suspended or arrested the PSI.
