PANJIM: The Women Police Station on Thursday registered an offence against NGOs Council for Social Justice & Peace and Confederation of Human Rights Organisation (Goa Chapter) on charges of using children for the protest meet against the citizenship law at Margao on January 24.
The First Information Report (FIR) has been registered under relevant sections of Goa Children’s Act and Juvenile Justice Act, based on a complaint lodged by NGO Stop Child Abuse Now.
The NGO has alleged that the associations violated child rights by exposing them to political ideology and aggressive and derogatory language.
“Having impressionable children at such gatherings places them in a vulnerable situation. Children are exposed to political ideology, aggressive and often derogatory language and this can leave a lasting memory. This can be detrimental to their sensitive minds. Also, at such meetings, the participants can become violent and innocent children become victims. This is violation of their rights,” the complaint stated.
